I hope everyones new year is going well so far, and that you have been able to stick to your new years resolutions. This year I made no resolutions because I know I won't follow them through.

I haven't been creating to much, did manage to make another quilling creation.

In the last few days I made a book :) really love the way it has turned out. It is now my daily diary, quite enjoying writing in it every night.

I have been quite busy taking lots of photos, if you didn't know I take macro photos of insects.

So I recently started quilling, and I love it. Sitting and twirling papers then creating a design. I have a few other quilling projects planned and can't wait to share it with you.

Cats are done

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Xmas. My christmas was spent alone because hubby was working, but we did have a lovely meal that evening.

So I managed to make 48 cats and one little duck in 5 days. Including boxes and gift tags. I am very proud of myself. There were some tense moments but I still did it.

How many people does it take to make 45 little clay cats?
Just me :) one person.

Hubby asked if I would make some of my clay cats for him to give his managers. The only thing is that I have 4 days to do it in! Plus 45 little boxes to put them in.
So far I have finished 10 cats and 10 boxes. I plan on adding something to the cats, either an initial of the person receiving it or a headband with rasta colours or a flower headband. Just waiting for hubby to give me a list of names to find out how many guys and girls there are.

Better get back to it, going to make another 10 cats today :)

To Create or not to Create....

On the weekend I got to go to a small craft market. It was quiet with just a few people coming by. Now they are going to be holding this market again next month, I am wondering if I should make a few things and take it to the market. Not quite sure what to do. The kinds of things people were selling were pottery, tie dyed clothing, calabash carvings, everything seemed very earthy. My things are a little more colourful and child like, and don't really fit in with the rest of what is being sold. Does this matter? Do I go anyway? How will I feel if nobody is interested?

Do you think I should do it?

Just a few photos. Haven't really done much photo taking since I've been in Jamaica.

Jacques' boss took us to this place. Was quite beautiful and the water was so clean and cold. You can't see it in this pic but there is a rope by the bridge that you can swing off.

This is the same place as the bridge picture on top. Love how green it is.

After being at the bridge for an hour or two we made our way to Scotchies. It is a famous restaurant where they make the best jerk pork and chicken. All very rustic, and they have a special way of barbecuing the meat.

That is me on the left and Megan, a lady who works with my hubby.

This is the way they barbecue the meat on these pieces of ? not sure what you call it.

And this last picture has nothing to do with the others. I just love pelicans, I can never get tired of seeing them. When we have a lot of fish in the water just outside our apartment block I get to see the pelicans up close.

Cloudy Friday

Picture above is my view this morning at 7am, nice cloudy day. This doesn't mean that it is nice and cool though. It is actually hotter with so much more humidity. At least there has been quite a bit of wind today.

Unfortunately no pictures of any creative things, still feeling a little stuck.
Finding things tough still, hubby works crazy hours so I don't see him much and plus haven't really made any friends. I am hoping once I have use of a car I will be able to meet some more people.

Good news is that I have a close friend who might come and visit, really hoping she does. Plus I have two people who have just announced they are pregnant.

Hearing about friends being pregnant is tough for me. Hubby and I have been trying with no luck. Its not that I'm not happy when I hear about friends having baby's I am just unhappy for myself not being able to experience having a child. Life is really unfair sometimes :(

Gosh sorry to be writing such a depressing blog post.

I am off now to do some more research on my family tree, I subscribed to ancestry.co.uk and have managed to find some interesting info.

This photo is the view from my balcony this morning. The mornings are always so calm and peaceful. We have two balconies. This is the balcony leading off the lounge and the upstairs balcony leads off the bedroom. Tomorrow I will share a photo from that balcony.

It has been a relatively busy day, cleaning, doing washing then fitting in some drawing in between, oh and I made some bread. Didn't come out great, for some reason it just didn't rise much. It does taste good though.

I really wish that I could cook better. I so much want to make healthy, delicious food for myself. Could do with some cooking lessons.

Not for the faint hearted!!!

It has been a while since I last blogged, no excuses really. My move to Jamaica has really taken a lot out of me, no motivation to do anything :( really not a nice feeling.

We have now finally received all our boxes from England, so I am very happy to have all my art things. Now I just have to get into that creative way of thinking again.

What else has happened to me? Well a few weeks ago I found this strange 'bite' on my foot. Well after going to the doctor I found out that I have a parasite in my foot called hookworm. Not a good feeling to know that you have a worm living in your foot. I took some tablets and put some cream on the area and it has now gone, I think :-l

Apparently hookworm is quite common in Jamaica, you get it when you walk in infected sand.

For anyone interested in knowing what a hookworm in your foot looks like here are some pics.

Still hadn't been to the doctor at this point, was really hoping it would clear up

When it started working its way up even more I thought this was definitely not going to clear by itself.

Rainy Wednesday

Another cloudy day here in Jamaica. I think I have forgotten what the sun looks like. We've been having so much rain, hopefully it goes away soon.

It is now officially the start of hurricane season. I am really hoping we have no major storms. Hurricanes and especially earthquakes really scare me. It feels horrible to not have control over something so destructive.

On a happier note :)

We have two little doves that have been sitting on their nest for the last few weeks and today I noticed that the eggs have hatched. So we now have two new little doves.

The doves have made their nest in a pot plant on our bedroom verandah so I haven't been able to open up the doors or been able to sit outside (thankfully we do have another verandah downstairs)

So I am looking forward to having the verandah back soon.

I managed to get this photo of one of the doves sitting on the nest. They are such good parents and are really taking good care of their new little babies.

Hello :)

Wow! It has been a while since I have blogged.

Well in the last month I have made the big move from England all the way to Jamaica.

It is taking me a while to get settled and to make our apartment feel more like home. I think it will be better once we have our things shipped from England, which unfortunately can only be done once we have our visas.

Feeling a little lost without my art things.

Monster Time!

Spring is here! Not that it feels like it, we had a couple of nice days and now it is cold again. Hopefully we will have more and more nice days.

I only have a few weeks left until I leave for Jamaica. My husband has been there for almost 3 months now. It has been really tough being away from him, but not much longer to go. Hubby has been living in the hotel but at the end of the month he will be moving into our new apartment. It is all really exciting. I am looking forward to a new fresh start.

So I have created some new little critters. I have been wanting to make some monsters out of felt but just didn't know where to start, but then I thought why not make it out of clay. I don't know why I never thought of it before. So here they are my little monsters.

I need to give them some names now.

Things to Share!

A few things to share.
Firstly, just a few arty things I have done. It really has been a tough few months with not much creating going on. Can't wait to move and get back to a creating routine.

I tried to make a little girl, don't think it is to bad for my first time. The reason for wanting to make a little girl is because I have actually started writing a children's book and my two characters are this little girl and of course a little orange cat. I am quite excited to see how book is going to turn out.

Update!

It is good to be back, finally.
My hubby is finally healing after having his gall bladder surgery. It has been a tough few weeks but we are finally on the road to recovery.
Other good news is that we also have 2 job offers :-) I can't go into specifics but as soon as we have things finalised I will share the news with you all. Lets just say that we will be moving away from the UK.
I have a few creations on my table right now, I will share photos with you all soon.

It's Wednesday already, the weeks just seem to fly by.

I have actually had quite a productive week so far, working really hard on trying to promote my etsy shop. Finding it quite difficult though, does anyone have any tips on how to get more traffic to your blog/etsy?

Hubby has an interview in Oxford on Thursday and he had to do an aptitude test yesterday for a hotel group. I really want to tell you all where the job opportunities are in the world but I really don't want to jinx it. So I am just going to have to be patient :(

I have been quite busy creating. At the moment doing my art is the only thing that seems to keep me sane.

All You Need is Love!

Hello Everyone,

It is a cold and miserable day here in England. At the moment I am sitting with two jerseys on and my fingerless gloves. I think I should start crocheting myself some scarves. Could summer be over already :(

Yesterday I woke up with this great idea to make cats that each hold a letter, it spells out LOVE. I think they turned out quite nicely.
Keeping with the theme of LOVE, I decided to create a treasury:
All You Need is Love

On the job front things are not looking good, hubby is still looking for a job. We have now decided to start looking not just in England but all over the world. So who knows where we will be moving to next, unless something comes up in England. For now all I can do is try and stay positive. I am so glad I have my art to keep me occupied.

Time to Customize!

Hello Everyone :)
What a crazy time I've been having.
I have really enjoyed getting my etsy shop up and running, one thing I am not very good at is trying to promote my shop. I am sure I will get the hang of it the more I do it.

I have now received two orders, yippee! My recent order was for a custom kitty. Now I normally work small, I like doing all the fiddly bits, but now this lovely lady wanted me to make her a 4 inch high kitty, wow!
Who thought that working bigger would be so much more difficult, but I did it, I completed it. You don't know how good it felt to finish it though.
Here is a pic of what he looked like, and then a pic of him compared to the original kitty who is about 1.5 inches tall.

Hope you are all enjoying your Monday so far.
My Monday hasn't started off to bad, a little shopping this morning and I am now sitting in my "studio" (parents dining room) planning to create a few new clay characters.
Last week was a great week, three amazing things happened.
It started off with me making my first sale on etsy, yippeee!!

Then I won a giveaway on the blog 365 Cat Ladies and Friends.
I won the ginger tabby pendant :)

The third thing to happen is that I found a cousin who is able to help me with my family tree.
I have been working on my family tree for so long and was having so much trouble finding info about my family. Then I contact my cousin and find out that he has over 3000 names on his family tree and he wouldn't mind sharing it with me. So we are now working together on the family tree. Isn't it lovely to meet someone who is as passionate as you are about something.
Now for some art that I would like to share.
In a previous post I showed you pictures of a policeman cat that I had made, well I didn't quite like the way he turned out. So I decided to make another policeman cat. He turned out much better.

This little policeman cat is for my brother who just recently finished his training in the academy and now starts his new job as a policeman. I am so proud of him.

I then decided to make another kitty for my sister-in-law who is a nurse, I love the way she turned out. What do you think?

They make such a cute couple :)

Busy, busy

Can't believe it is Monday already, the weekend went by so quickly.

I have been quite busy playing with my clay, I managed to make a few cats.
Today I actually made two teeny tiny cats which I thought would be a good idea for my charms bracelet I have.
This is how it turned out.

Both cats are about half an inch big, I think they look quite cute. Now I just have to get some proper jewelry rings so I can attach them properly.

I also have a photo of a little flower cat I created last week. She turned out quite nicely the only problem is that when I baked her she cracked a bit on the one side. Not that the crack is that visible but being a perfectionist (yes I have finally admitted it) I noticed it straight away.

She is also made out of fimo clay and then given a coat of varnish.

My hubby and I are off to London tomorrow because he has a job interview. So hold thumbs for us that it all works out.

Jogging kitty

It's Done!

I have finally done it, opened my Etsy store.
It took a while, its not that it was difficult, I was just having a lot of doubts about wether I should be doing it or not. I think a lot of it has to do with fear, fear of failing, fear of ridicule. So I have stopped listening to that little negative voice and just going to put myself out there.

At the moment my hubby is still trying to find a job here in England. Only once he has a job can I apply for my residence permit and only then can I start looking for work. So I have plenty of time to concentrate on my shop and creating. So no excuses.

I have been working with my fimo clay mostly, I just love creating these little kitty's (and rabbits). I have painted in a while but plan to start again soon. There are so many ideas going through my head. Sometimes I have so many ideas that I don't know where to start and then nothing gets done.

Here is one of my fimo characthers, I just recently created and is for sale in my Etsy store.

Wow, this has been hard. I have spent the last few weeks trying to setup my etsy store. So I have now created a few things and need to start putting them into my store but do you think I can do it. I have done everything possible to put it off. I just need to find the courage to do it, but for now I have put a few things in my Artfire Store if you would like to have a look.

Who's in the Box?

We finally received our boxes from Bali so I now have most of my art materials unpacked. Now to just get back into painting :)

I have been creating a few characters with my clay, I am quite excited about how they turned out.

I wanted to share the next creation with you. It is something I created as a gift for my brother.

Look! It's a little kitty.

Not just any kitty he is a policeman kitty : )

My brother just finished his training to become a policeman so I thought I would make him this little guy. The kitty measures just under 2 inches high.

Now my brother lives in Colorado so I need to post this little guy to him. Does anyone have any tips on how to ship him safely? He will be in his little box, and then I was thinking of putting that little box in a bigger box.

Any tips would be appreciated : )

Tanya and Hubby to the Rescue!

When moving to Bali you always hear stories about puppies and kittens being found in plastic bags and dumped on the side of the road. Well in the year we have been in Bali, thankfully I had not witnessed this until about 2 weeks before we were to leave Bali.

On the side of our house there is a place where people having been throwing their garbage (thankfully not smelly garbage). Well I was busy cleaning the house when I hear little meows, at first I thought it was just the hotel next door which has a lot of stray cats. The meowing continued so I pop my head out the window and look down into the garbage heap and look what I see, a little white kitten.

In a panic I run downstairs put my shoes on and I am out the front door and run around the house to the garbage heap. When I get there I find at first 2 little white kittens, I call my husband to come help so that I can hold the towel while he hands them to me. We then pick up bag and inside is another little kitten. I can't believe this, someone has actually thrown them in the garbage heap. My hubby looks around to see if we missed anyone but we see nothing so we take the 3 babies home.

They really do look terrible and are very smelly, but they are so cute and small.
I guessed that they are about 3 weeks old.

Hubby and I then rush off to buy some kitten formula and some bottles.
My first thought is, "Am I really going to be able to keep them alive?"
So I do my research on the internet and also call a local lady who rescues cats all the time.
Also knowing that we only have two weeks left in Bali I know that I have to find someone who will be able to look after the kittens.
While I try and feed the babies my hubby calls a few places to try and find someone who can care for them.
I manage to mix the formula into a little bottle, then get ready to feed them. You can only imagine how difficult this was. I was being so gentle with them. I think too gentle because by the second feed I had finally managed to get the bottle into their mouths and the two babies where sucking really hard. Then after feeding it was time to make them go to the toilet, I did this by rubbing their private parts gently with cotton wool and it actually worked. I finally feel like everything is going to be okay.

My hubby eventually manages to find a local vet who has someone that can foster the kittens until they are ready for adoption, but they can only fetch them the following day. So I had to get up every 2 hours to feed the babies.
Then the next morning about an hour before the vet was going to come and fetch them. I heard little meows again from the garbage heap. At first I thought I must be hearing things but when I went to check the garbage heap again there between the trees was a tiny little kitten. I was so upset because I knew it was from the same litter of kittens and we missed seeing it the previous day. This poor little kitten managed to survive over night all alone :(

The funny thing is that the three kittens we found the previous day where all white and the fourth kitten was tiger striped. Very strange.
So in the end we saved four little kittens. I still wonder how they are doing and wish I could have had the chance to care for them.

I know that if we were going to be staying in Bali for longer I would definitely have kept them.
I can't believe how upset I was once the kittens had gone. I only had them for just over a day but I felt like they were my babies.

Travel, travel, travel!

Yes I am still here : ) I know it has been a while since I last posted.
Things have been so crazy, with preparing for our move from Bali and then having this volcano cause problems with our flights.
Now all our things have been shipped from Bali and instead of flying straight to the UK from Singapore in April we decided to fly back home to Cape Town to visit family.
It was lovely spending two weeks with our family and I especially loved spending time with my kitty who I haven't seen in 2 years. It still amazes me that he remembers us, it's as if we have never been apart.
Here we are spending some time together enjoying the sunshine.

The worst part is when it comes to leaving him behind, but I know that he is being looked after well and is quite happy.

Now after flying for 29 hours we are finally in the UK. I can't believe how cold it is, I suppose after living in Bali where it is always hot it is going to take us a while to adjust again to cold weather.

I won't be creating for a while longer as I don't have any of my art materials, I really don't know how I am going to cope.

Nyepi and Ogoh Ogoh!

I am sure by now you know that we live in Bali Indonesia. We were lucky enough to celebrate the Balinese Hindu New Year.

The first day of the New Year for 2010 is the 16 March called Nyepi or Day of Silence.
The day before Nyepi in the evening big monsters, known as Ogoh Ogoh, are paraded through the streets, while people carry flame lit torches and make lots of noise to scare away the demons.

My husband and I went down to one of the busier streets to watch the Ogoh Ogoh parade. Trying to get around Bali at this time is quite difficult because most of the roads get blocked off.
We got to witness a ceremony which was taking place in the street. All these people gathered around and sitting on the ground. Towards the end of the ceremony they slaughtered a pig.
Out of the blue various men and woman start screaming and shouting. I am not quite sure why, so I won't try and guess. At this point I decided to step away from the crowd because I find the screaming and crying very upsetting. It was so difficult for me not to start crying. I don't know why it effected me this way.
The people crying and screaming are then led into the temple, from there you do not know what goes on or what happens to them because we are not allowed into the temples.
Once it was dark the Ogoh Ogoh parade began.

Here are just a few pics of the Ogoh Ogoh we got to see.

Then of course on Nyepi or The Day of Silence everyone has to stay inside. The whole of Bali shuts down even the airport.
You are not allowed to make any noise or have to many lights on. It was amazing to look out of my window in the evening and it was just pitch black outside when normally Bali is lit up.
It was 24 hours of silence, until the next day at 6 am when everything was back to normal.

Just found out that I am going for a job interview at a Montessori school, I am quite nervous, actually I am terrified. I have just recently qualified so it would be my first teaching position. I don't think I can do it. So think of me on Monday and hold thumbs I get through it okay.

No More Bugs!

Hello everyone,

Woke up this morning with it raining, our rainy season has started here in Bali so almost everyday we have some rain. It has also been so hot, what I wouldn't give to have some cool weather right now.

I received a comment on my blog this morning from someone who likes my blog but once she had looked around a bit she got put off by my macro photos of spiders.

I love spiders and all bugs and have never thought to myself that there might be people out there that don't like them and have phobias. How could I be so thoughtless.

Sorry to all those people out there that I have maybe scared off. So now I have removed the pictures on the sidebar so no more spiders or bugs, but if you would like to see any of my photos then head on over to my photo blog,

Let Sleeping Cats Lie

Every morning I get up and the first thing I do is check the swimming to pool to see what might have fallen in during the night. Most of the time it is a toad, luckily I have been able to save quite a few but I did once have to fish out a toad that had drowned. I won't go into detail but it wasn't a pretty sight.

So this morning it was bitter sweet. In the pool I found the tiniest little bat. Unfortunately it had drowned, but then I am also glad I got to see it up close.

Bats are fascinating and beautiful, as the sun is going to set I always sit and watch them dart around and then come down to drink water from the pool.

So it was a sad start to my day.

I do have some art to share, painting 3 in my garden series. I wish the photo could capture all the colours properly, I definitely have to take better photos.

Wednesday Thoughts

Been disappointed with myself for not blogging more. I have no excuses, except to say my mood isn't the greatest right now.

The past few weeks have been, how can I say, a blur. Not much has happened just been going through so many emotions right now which has prevented me from doing much of anything.

I went and bought myself a book the other day, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I am quite enjoying it so far. It is nice to take my mind of things for a little while.

I have done some art work, just haven't had a chance to upload it yet.

So I am still around and hope to be back to creating soon.

Wow, what a lovely surprise when I got up this morning and checked my blog and saw all the lovely comments. I have never received so many at one time : ). I just want to thank you all for giving me such positive feedback. It has really made me feel so good and I just want to create, create, create.

I have another kitty picture to share, Fishbowl kitty.

Still need to work on my backgrounds, I hope the more I paint ideas will come to me about what to do in the background. I just don't want to make the picture to crowded.

It's Sunday which means that hubby is home and we get to spend some quality time together. Today we have a barbecue planned and lots of swimming and then dvd's this evening.

I have two pictures to share with you today.

The first one is just a quick drawing I did in my sketch book, I coloured it in with my watercolour pencil crayons.

And of course the next picture has a cat in it. This picture reminds me of my cat Garfies, I have a photo of him sitting in the flower bed.

Furry Thursday!!

I have started drawing my cats again.

The reason it has been a while is because a lady came to look at our house quite a long time ago, as she was looking around she saw some of my paintings on the table and said "Oh, you do have children" At first I wasn't sure why she said that, she then pointed to my painting. I told her that we don't have children, it was then a bit awkward. She then tried really hard to compliment my art by saying that she thought it was a colouring book.

I know she didn't mean it to be horrible, but it just made me doubt myself even more.

I do love my kitty's though, and they make me happy which I suppose is a good reason to start drawing them again.

I hope they can bring a smile to your face as well.

Two things to share with you today.

The first drawing I did a while ago, it is the third in my series of circle drawings.

The second photo is the drawing I did for the cover of my new sketch book. The only problem I had was that when I wanted to stick the picture on the cover I put to much glue down so it smudged the picture a bit in the corners. Otherwise I love how colourful it is.

Earthquake!!!

So on the 19 September we had an earthquake here in Bali, it measured 5.8.

It happened at around 7:20am so my hubby and I were still sleeping. I don't think I have ever gotten out of bed so fast. Our bedroom is upstairs, so our first thought was to get downstairs, but instead we stood on the top of the stairs (I know not a good place to be during an earthquake) the house rattled a bit and seemed to stop so we thought it was over but then it started again.

That is when we ran downstairs into the garden. The problem is that our garden is tiny, the swimming pool takes up most of it and then we have high walls all around and then this huge water tower. So all we could do is stand and wait and hope nothing falls down.

It felt like it lasted forever but it was only about 30 sec. It was really scary, I was so afraid the walls were going to crumble. The last time I went through and earthquake we lived in the Caribbean, I felt a lot safer then I think because we lived in a single storey house and we had a huge open area in front of the house but now in our current house everything feels so close together with no where to run.

Thankfully we are fine, our house has a few cracks. The only serious crack is in the downstairs bathroom, the crack goes right through to the other side of the wall so we will have to get someone to have a look at it for us.

There was only one aftershock about 4 hours later, which apparently measured 4.3 and only lasted a couple of seconds.

I hope that there are no more earthquakes.

I am working!!!!

Just wanted you all to know that I am still around just been quite busy. Since we moved to Bali I have not been able to find work as a Montessori teacher, but just over a week ago the local Montessori school contacted me and asked if I was interested in being a substitute teacher. I obviously agreed.

So I had my first two days last week because one of the teacher was sick. I then thought this week was going to be quiet but the principal called me on Sunday and asked if I could come in today and now it looks like I will be going in for the rest of the week. This is all great the only thing is that it is my first teaching position so I am feeling a little lost and on top of that I have no idea what routines the kids have or where anything is in the classroom. So it has really been crazy.

I will be back soon with some more of my creations but for now I just have to get used to working again, by the time I get home I am pooped and all I can think about is having a cup of coffee and relaxing in front of the t.v.

Felt Kitty's!

So the other night before going to sleep I came up with this great idea (seemed like a great idea at the time) to make felt cats.

The next morning I gave it a try and this is what I have done so far.

This first picture is the first one I made, it didn't come out exactly the way I had planned. It was meant to be sitting, but as you can see the tale is a little stiff.

The second picture and I think I am getting the hang of this. Starting to look a little more like what I want, but still not quite right.

Now this is the third one, I like the way it turned out. It is looking more like the paintings of my cats. As you can see I didn't give him any legs, I am not sure how to do those yet.

I am hoping that the more I make the better I will get, I am also hoping my sewing gets better and neater.

If any one has any sewing tips I would love to hear them.

New Painting

The painting I did today is very different to what I normally do.

I really wanted to paint some lizards, well I came up with a design. It took me forever to try and draw the lizards, but with a little help from my lizard friend who lives in our sitting area, we have named him Sid, I managed to draw a lizard.

The painting is now hanging in our sitting area, maybe a little small for the wall it is on though.

I can't believe it's that time of the year again, birthday time. I am now the big 33. I have a good feeling about being 33, some really good things are going to happen this year : )

This is the painting I did today.

The reason for doing this design is because the other night just before I fell asleep I saw this design. I first sketched it out on some paper and then thought that it would be a good idea to paint it on a canvas.

The dots that outline each shape are made with a syringe.

How to eat Snake Skin...........

How to eat snake skin FRUIT (hahahaha)

My friend came to visit and introduced me to this fruit, I am not sure what the local name is for it.

Looks a little dodgy but it actually tastes really nice.

So this is what it looks like before being peeled.

You then proceed to peel the skin off, comes off quite easily.

This is what it looks like with all the skin off. There are 3 pieces here which you break apart and eat. It really does taste nice, slightly sweet but not too sweet. I like to keep it in the fridge and eat it cold.

You just have to be careful because there is a seed in the middle.

Actually these aren't my friday creations, I did them yesterday I just didn't have a chance to upload them.
Quite like the way they turned out. Still feel like my backgrounds need something else, does anyone have some suggestions?I don't want the picture to be to busy.

Yes this kitty has a Christmas hat on, not sure why. Now with this picture I would really like to do something different with the background.

What could it be?

I saw this little guy slithering around our garden yesterday, he was very shy so every time I moved he would stay dead still and then eventually he hid under a rock.

I have been looking online to find out about what kind of snake it is but do you think I can find any info about snakes in Bali. It looks very similar to a garter snake but I am not sure. If anyone out there can help that would be great.

When the pool guy came today I asked him about snakes, I don't think I should have though. His english isn't that great so when I mentioned snake he thought there was one in our garden right now, I then had to try and explain that I just wanted to know if he knew what kind of snake it was. He then told me that next time I saw the snake I must throw salt at it or hit it with a stick. I think most Balinese react this way, pool guy says because they are poisonous.

I am sure my little snake is harmless.

I don't have any to share with you today, I am having a bit of an off day today. I do have plenty of ideas running around in my head though and will be back at it tomorrow : )

Dengue Fever!!!!

June was not a good month for me or my hubby. We both contracted dengue fever, I got sick first and then just as I was getting better my hubby became sick. I was lucky enough to stay out of hospital but my hubby was in hospital for 5 days. For anyone who wants to know what dengue is here is a link for more info.We are now both healthy and I am back to creating and I would like to share some of my recent creativity with you.

I have had a burst of creativity, and I am just loving it.

I painted these three pictures during the week.

I had to do a painting of my three kitty's.

Not quite sure why I painted this picture, my hubby seems to think it's my Africanness coming through.
This tree painting is my favourite, I really like the way it turned out. When I was painting it I had this really strong feeling that I had done this before, deja vu.

Things I have learnt living in Bali

Electricity is precious.

Always make sure you have candles on hand, because you never know when the electricity will be turned off.

Ants are your friends, unless they are trying to move the family into the house then they are enemies.

If there is a black speck in your coffee don't automatically think it is a bit of coffee because it probably isn't, in my experience it can either be a little beetle or who knows what else

Before using an appliance, such as a toaster, give it a good shake or a bang on the counter, you never know who might come crawling out.

When you miss your cat so much and can't have a pet you befriend anything. Our pet is a lizard, his name is Sid and he lives on our roof and eats the bugs.

Don't even think about drinking the tap water.

The first questions you get asked when you meet someone is: "Where do you come from" and "Where do you live"

Very few people know where South Africa is and if they do know where it is they ask you why you aren't black.

I giggle every time our neighbours cow moos, I love cows : )

It is great being able to speak another language, so that when you get bugged by hawkers you just pretend you don't understand (this doesn't stop them though)

Balinese people are lovely : )

Hello from Bali!

Today I have a lady coming to the house who will be our housekeeper.

I am so bad when it comes to getting someone to help us clean because I feel like I need to clean the house before she gets here.

Crazy I know. I wasn't too bad this morning, I did get everything packed away and in its place so that she knows where everything should be.So we will see how things go.

I am still trying to adjust to living in Bali, it is taking a little longer than I thought, but then it has only been a month.

Not much creating has been going on, actually I did make a holder for my pencil crayons and a bag I suppose that is creating. I just haven't done any drawing, I am not stressing over it to much and I don't want to force myself to do anything because then I won't enjoy it.

The Big Move!

We've made the big move to Bali, we have been in Bali for 2 weeks now. It hasn't been the easiest 2 weeks. We stayed in hotel for the first 4 days and in that time we had to try and get our house ready. We did finally move in but the house is still quite empty and doesn't feel much like home yet.

We still don't have internet at home so I've had to walk to the local restaurant to come on the internet. Luckily most of the restaurants offer free wifi.

Hopefully our internet will be up and running soon, feeling a bit lost with out it.

I hope to be back soon.

Things have been crazy, so I haven't had a chance to do anything but complete my teaching practice and get ready for our big move.

Can't wait to tell you all where we will be going, it is quite an exciting place.

On top of all this I have no internet at home, I feel so out of touch.

Hello,

I would like to share some of my creativity with you today.

My first creation that I eventually managed to finish is this scarf. I used nice chunky wool so it is really nice and warm.

The next artwork I wasn't going to share because I didn't think it was good enough to share, but after thinking about it I realised that I need to stop judging myself so harshly. So what if it isn't perfect, I am proud of what I have done and I want to share that with you.

So here it is.

As you can see in the first photo I tried to draw my boy from this picture.

I thought I would point out all the things I found wrong with the drawing, but I am not going to do that. I tried my best, and with practice I hope to get better at it.

I think sometimes my problem is that I work too quickly, all I want to do is finish it. For this drawing I have started off slowly, everyday I will try and draw a bit more.

I have been finding it difficult getting the mouth right, but I'm sure I will get there.

That is it from me for now, I hope to be back soon.

It's That Time Again!

It is that time again, time to move on to a different place.

I can't believe it has already been a year that we have been in Paris. This year has gone by so quickly.

I am not able to say right now where we are going but lets just say it is somewhere very exotic and very different to where we are now.

I always get so emotional when I know it is time to change, change and I definitely don't mix well. I get moody and can cry over just about anything.

BUT....

for this move it is going to be different, I am going to be positive and think of all the good things to come, I also have a good feeling about this move.

So I can't wait to tell you all where we are going, as soon as everything is finalised.

I am now on winter break for 2 weeks, so I will definitely be doing some creating in between finishing off observations and planning new presentations.
